The Trust has a comprehensive presentation about the Duke, including its history and many details about the current overhaul.
Here’s how the presentation is structured:
- An introduction about the governance structure for the organisations involved in the loco.
- The construction, BR days and withdrawal (1954 – 1962).
- The scrapyard, rescue and rebuild (1974 – 1986)
- Its work in preservation from 1985 to failure in 2012 – including a bit of story telling about the Shap trials in 1995
- A substantive update covering the recent restoration work (2015 – 2025).
- A conclusion with a couple of slides on one of Denis Evans models.
The presentation takes approximately two hours, with time for questions and answers.
We can give the presentation electronically to interested groups (who will need to provide the projector and screen) for a donation of £250.
